Varsity trialsTrials for the varsity squad are taking place this coming Saturday, the 17th of October. Please email us at info@ouplc.com to let us know if you intend on competing. Lifting will start at 10 am, with the weigh-in opening at 9am at the Iffley Road Sports Complex. The trials will be conducted according to IPF unequipped ("raw") standards. This means that bench presses have to be paused on the chest and that squats must be done to a depth where the crease of the hip goes below the top of the knee. The only permitted supportive equipment are a belt, wrist wraps and chalk. The full rules and judging commands for each lift will be explained on the day. Each lifter will be allowed 3 attempts at each of the 3 lifts - squat, bench press and deadlift (in that order). The lifter's best effort from each lift will be tallied to form the "total". This total will then be converted into a "Wilks points" total using a formula based on bodyweight and gender, allowing the committee to compare lifters across weight classes. Lifters of all levels are encouraged to participate or spectate, although we strongly recommend that lifters have some experience of the correct performance of each lift.
