Cuppers

Powerlifting Cuppers 2010

There was a good turn-out for the 2010 Cuppers after only 3 people showed up the year before. Simon Inman, Jake Yorke, Gus Robinson and Phill Counsell fought it out for the collegiate unequipped title, with Simon taking it home with a Wilks of 272.6, barely 7 points ahead of Jake. Gus took 3rd with 238 points. Phill put in solid squats and deadlifts, but sadly bombed out of the competition on the bench press.

Of the non-uni competitors, Jon Dickison continued his rapid progress, slamming through PRs in all 3 lifts: 150 squat, 110 bench and 200 deadlift, for a 460 total and 275 wilks. Thilina "Harry" Abeywickrama competed in his first competition, and set good numbers with a PR squat of 117.5, a bench of 80 and a decent 160 pull. Former varsity team manager Dr Sam Hazbun also competed, in his case for the first time since late 2008 after a debilitating back injury. Sam threw on his squat suit and knee wraps and hit a nice 195 equipped squat, before blasting a 130 raw bench. He finished up with a 230 pull in the suit. Finally, honorary member Nathan Scott (also lifting equipped) went deadlift-only and hammered two big weights - 310 and 320. He finished with a 330 pull - huge, but also illegal due to an exaggerated hitch at lockout. Impressive nevertheless!

Thanks to everyone who showed up - it was a great day!
